The business offers an extensive all-day menu covering breakfast, brunch, lunch, coffee, smoothies, burgers, pasta, risotto, seafood, salads, kids meals and café-style favourites. The menu is built around fresh ingredients, balanced flavours, generous portions and meals designed to nourish and satisfy local customers, families, workers and visitors.
The business is seeking a skilled and reliable Cook to support daily kitchen operations and assist in preparing consistent, high-quality meals across its busy all-day menu.
Position Overview
The Cook will be responsible for preparing, cooking, portioning and presenting food in line with The Nourish Eatery’s menu standards. The role requires strong practical cooking skills, good food preparation knowledge, attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently during busy breakfast, brunch and lunch service periods.
The successful candidate will work with the kitchen team and management to maintain food quality, kitchen cleanliness, safe food handling and smooth service delivery across dine-in, takeaway and delivery orders.
Key Responsibilities
i. Examine foodstuffs, ingredients and prepared items to ensure freshness, quality, correct storage condition and suitability for cooking.
ii. Prepare and cook breakfast, brunch and lunch dishes, including eggs, omelettes, focaccias, burgers, chicken dishes, seafood, pasta, risotto, salads, kids meals and café-style specials.
iii. Regulate temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers, cooktops and other kitchen equipment to ensure food is cooked safely and consistently.
iv. Season food during cooking and adjust flavours, textures and finishing elements in line with the business’s menu standards.
v. Portion food, plate meals and add sauces, relishes, chutneys, dressings, garnishes and accompaniments before service.
vi. Prepare menu items such as smashed avocado, eggs benedict, big breakfast, brunch burgers, pancakes, French toast, nourish bowls, salmon, seafood linguine, risotto and house salads.
vii. Store food in temperature-controlled facilities, including fridges, freezers and cool room areas, while following stock rotation and safe storage procedures.
viii. Prepare food to meet special dietary requirements where possible, including vegetarian, gluten-free and allergy-conscious meal adjustments.
ix. Assist with estimating food requirements and preparing ingredients for daily service, peak periods, weekends and public holidays.
x. Maintain cleanliness, hygiene and food safety standards across preparation benches, cooking stations, storage areas and kitchen equipment.
xi. Communicate with management, kitchen staff and front-of-house staff regarding order timing, customer requests, unavailable items and service flow.
xii. Assist in guiding junior kitchen staff, kitchenhands and trainees in basic preparation, cooking, plating and safe kitchen practices where required.
Qualifications and Experience
The successful candidate should have:
i. AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, Kitchen Operations, Hospitality or a closely related field.
ii. At least three years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications listed above.
iii. Relevant experience and/or on-the-job training may be required in addition to formal qualifications in some instances.
iv. Previous experience in a café, restaurant, brunch venue, casual dining venue or similar kitchen environment.
v. Practical experience preparing breakfast, brunch, lunch, pasta, risotto, seafood, burgers, salads and plated café-style meals.
vi. Knowledge of food safety, hygiene procedures, stock rotation, portion control and kitchen organisation.
