A rare opportunity is available for an individual to guide astronomy tours at Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary and International Dark Sky Sanctuary. This is a dual role where you will work FOH in our reception/restaurant during the daytime, then host an astronomy tour in the evening. This is a unique opportunity for someone to get practical, hands on experience in the astronomy field. Privately owned and operated, Arkaroola is renowned for its spectacular landscapes, unique geology, rich ecology, and world-class dark skies. With 3 state of the art Astronomical Observatories and far from the light of cities, Arkaroola is perfect for those with an interest in the night sky. As an Astronomy Guide you are central to ensuring our guests experience the highest levels of service - Tour Guides are an integral part of our operations. π Location: Northern Flinders Ranges, South Australia, 600 km north of Adelaide. This is a remote location where you will live and work on-site. π Our Astronomy Tours: Traditional eye to telescope State of the art remote controlled imaging Viewing under the stars using binoculars, telescope and automated star chairs π About The Role: Conduct any of the existing types of astronomy tours offered at Arkaroola Educate visitors on the importance of dark skies Contribute to International DarkSky reporting Maintain cleanliness of the observatories, perform pre and post tour checks Assist with equipment and software maintenance The second part of your role will be working Front of House during the daytimes to provide services to our guests, such as assist with guest check ins, handle general enquiries, talk about tour offerings, take bookings over the phone, serve guests during breakfast and lunch service, and carry out other duties as requested. π About You: Knowledge of and a genuine interest in astronomy You take pride in your work Excellence in customer service, this is a customer facing role Confident public speaker, ability to engage with people of all ages Technologically minded Positive attitude, friendly and approachable Reliable and adaptable - we have some very busy periods Team player, able to get along with different personalities in a tight knit community University degree in astronomy or a related field is an advantage π More Info: Start date mid to late July, end date late November with option to return in 2027 Consistent hours on a casual basis, paid at HIGA award rate Specified work for 417 & 462 visa holders All meals and accommodation provided for 175 per week Enjoy all Arkaroola has to offer - join tours and scenic flights, go hiking, 4WDing, and explore the more remote areas of the property Ongoing training and the ability to train in other departments Discounts for family and friends Unique opportunity to live and work in a stunning wilderness environment A South Australian drivers licence for medium rigid vehicles and driver accreditation are preferred.
