The Opportunity Sante Recruitment is seeking an experienced
Consultant General Surgeon to join the surgical team at
Rockhampton Hospital, the largest hospital in Central Queensland and the region's principal referral centre.
Working alongside the
Director of Surgery, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality General Surgery services across Central Queensland, managing a broad range of
acute and elective surgical presentations in both adult and paediatric patients.

clinical variety, teaching, leadership and professional development within a major regional referral service.
About the Department The Department of Surgery operates across:
- Four operating theatres
- Two procedure rooms
- Six-bed Intensive Care / High Dependency Unit
- Consultant-led inpatient and outpatient services
- Operating and endoscopy services
- Surgical outreach services across Central Queensland

accredited for specialist training and has a strong commitment to
teaching, research and professional development.
As the region's major surgical referral service, Rockhampton Hospital provides the opportunity to manage a diverse and rewarding surgical caseload while allowing patients to receive specialist care close to home.
The Role Working as part of the senior surgical team, you will:
- Provide consultant General Surgery services
- Manage a broad range of acute and elective surgical conditions
- Provide inpatient and outpatient surgical care
- Undertake operating theatre and endoscopy services within your credentialed scope
- Participate in the after-hours surgical on-call roster
- Provide surgical outreach across Central Queensland
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff and surgical trainees
- Contribute to specialist surgical training and education
- Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement
- Support patient safety initiatives
- Contribute to research and teaching
- Assist with surgical service planning and development
- Provide professional leadership within the department
The role offers excellent clinical variety across
adult and paediatric General Surgery, with opportunities to contribute to the ongoing development of regional surgical services.
About You To be considered, you will have:
- MBBS or equivalent eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Specialist registration or eligibility for specialist registration with AHPRA
- FRACS in General Surgery, or an equivalent qualification acceptable for Australian specialist registration
- Commitment to ongoing Continuing Medical Education (CME)
- Demonstrated experience in General Surgery
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Commitment to teaching, research and clinical governance
International Medical Graduates with appropriate overseas specialist qualifications are encouraged to enquire regarding
RACS assessment and AHPRA registration pathways.
Credentialing & Scope of Practice The successful applicant will undergo the Queensland Health
credentialing and scope of clinical practice process.
Your qualifications, experience, certified skills and competencies will determine the scope of clinical practice granted.
Credentialing and Scope of Clinical Practice are subject to ongoing review, generally on a
three-yearly basis.
Remuneration & Benefits
Total remuneration package up to $562,473 p.a. Salary is dependent on level and experience and includes:
- $265,550 – $281,545 p.a. (L25–L27), or
- $222,059 – $257,932 p.a. (L18–L24)
- 12.75% employer superannuation
- 17.5% annual leave loading
