The Strand is one of Yeppoon’s go-to coastal pubs - a large, high-volume venue right on the waterfront, known for its relaxed atmosphere, strong local following and busy trade year-round. With a bistro, functions and events, this is a kitchen that delivers consistent, quality pub food at scale.
We’re on the hunt for a hands-on Head Chef to lead the kitchen, drive standards and take full ownership of BOH operations. This role suits a strong leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, knows how to manage costs, and can build and lead a solid, stable team.
The Role
As Head Chef, you will be responsible for the overall running of the kitchen, ensuring smooth service, consistent food quality and a well-led team. You’ll work closely with the Venue Manager and have support from the wider operations team.
What You’ll Be Doing
Full ownership of kitchen operations
Lead, train and develop your team
Manage food and labour costs
Drive consistency and service standards
Oversee ordering, stock control and rostering
Ensure food safety and WHS compliance
Contribute to menu development and seasonal specials
What We’re Looking For
Previous Head Chef or strong Sous Chef experience
Experience in high-volume pub or bistro kitchens
Strong leadership and team development skills
Solid understanding of food cost, labour and kitchen financials
Hands-on, organised and calm under pressure
Someone who wants to be part of the local community and venue long-term
