Senior Project Officers (AO6) – 2 Roles Available!Location: Brisbane or Townsville
Contract until June 2027
My client is seeking two dedicated and highly capable AO6 Senior Project Officers to join a dynamic team working on a statewide approach to managing and transforming Queensland's Abandoned Mine Portfolio.
The Opportunities While both roles will work collaboratively to unlock remediation, repurposing, and re-commercialisation opportunities across the state, they offer distinct areas of focus:
- Role 1: Portfolio and Risk Assessment Focus – You will coordinate the statewide implementation of the Risk and Prioritisation Framework to assess, rank, and prioritise abandoned mine sites. Key duties include conducting comprehensive risk, desktop, and field assessments, executing spatial analysis, and facilitating workshops to manage the risk register.
- Role 2: Re-commercialisation Focus – You will assist in the development and execution of the Queensland Re-commercialisation Action Plan to drive industry-led commercial successes. Key duties include leading technical geological assessments, managing data for the Re-commercialisation Atlas, and conducting field supervision of contractors.
Shared Responsibilities
Across both roles, you will also be expected to:
- Plan, commission, and interpret findings from technical investigations and field monitoring activities.
- Develop technical specifications and lead procurement activities in line with approved budgets.
- Communicate and engage effectively with internal and external industry stakeholders to foster positive relationships and outcomes.
About You
To be successful in these roles, we are looking for candidates who possess:
- A recognised tertiary qualification in geology, science, engineering, or another relevant technical/scientific discipline related to mining (highly regarded).
- Previous experience working within the mining industry (highly regarded).
- Qualifications or proven experience in project management or risk management (desirable).
- A mandatory current open C class driver’s licence.
- The physical fitness necessary to undertake field work in remote locations with challenging terrain.
- A willingness to travel away from the centre, which may involve overnight accommodation and travel outside of normal office hours.
- Australian citizenship, permanent residency status, or a valid visa permitting you to work in Australia.
