Your new role
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Payroll Manager will lead the delivery, governance and continuous improvement of the payroll function. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced payroll leader to balance operational oversight with strategic transformation, ensuring accurate and compliant payroll delivery while driving process automation, systems enhancements and payroll governance improvements. The role oversees one direct report and will play a key role in modernising payroll operations as the organisation continues to evolve.
Key responsibilities
• Lead the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring accurate, compliant and timely payroll processing.
• Provide expert advice on payroll compliance, taxation, superannuation and Enterprise Agreement interpretation.
• Drive payroll process improvement, automation and systems enhancement initiatives.
• Lead payroll governance, internal controls, audit readiness and risk management activities.
• Oversee payroll reporting, reconciliations, workforce analytics and data integrity.
• Partner with Finance, People & Culture and ICT teams to support business improvement projects.
• Manage payroll system upgrades, testing and change management activities.
• Lead, coach and develop the Payroll Officer while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
What you'll need to succeed
• Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end payroll functions within a small, complex organisation.
• Strong experience interpreting and applying Enterprise Agreements and employment conditions.
• Proven track record implementing payroll process improvements, automation initiatives and systems enhancements.
• Strong understanding of payroll governance, compliance, taxation, superannuation and audit requirements.
• Experience leading payroll-related change management and business transformation projects.
• Ability to build strong relationships across Finance, People & Culture and broader business stakeholders.
• Previous experience coaching and developing staff.
• TechnologyOne payroll experience will be highly regarded.
• Victorian Public Sector or other highly regulated industry experience is desirable.
