Specialist Anaesthetist to join the Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine team in
Darwin, Northern Territory.
This is an opportunity to work at the Northern Territory's principal tertiary referral centre, providing specialist services across the Top End and supporting patients from regional and remote communities.
You will have the opportunity to work across
anaesthesia, acute pain and perioperative medicine, while contributing to education, clinical leadership, quality improvement and the development of services across the Northern Territory.
The Opportunity The successful Anaesthetist will provide high-quality specialist services across
Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH), Palmerston Regional Hospital (PRH) and Surgical Outreach programs.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Providing specialist anaesthesia, acute pain and perioperative medicine services
- Delivering elective and emergency anaesthetic care
- Providing after-hours emergency anaesthetic and specialist consultancy services as part of the roster
- Contributing to the delivery of Surgical Outreach services
- Providing education, supervision and mentoring to junior medical staff and trainees
- Participating in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives
- Contributing to patient safety and service development within Anaesthesia and Perioperative Medicine
- Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams
- Providing culturally responsive care, with a strong focus on improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
About the Health Service Royal Darwin Hospital is the
principal tertiary referral hospital for the Northern Territory, providing specialist healthcare across Darwin and the wider Top End, with referral links extending into regional and remote areas, Western Australia and South-East Asia.
The service also plays a national role through the
National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre, providing a unique environment for clinicians seeking broad and challenging specialist experience.
The role provides exposure to both complex tertiary medicine and the unique clinical requirements of a geographically dispersed population.
About You Applicants will have:
- FANZCA or an overseas equivalent specialist qualification
- Current Specialist Registration with AHPRA, or eligibility to obtain specialist registration
- Demonstrated specialist experience in anaesthesia
- Strong clinical and decision-making skills
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary and cross-cultural environments
- Commitment to high-quality clinical care and patient safety
- Commitment to teaching, supervision and professional development
- An interest in contributing to quality improvement and service development
Internationally trained Anaesthetists with an appropriate overseas specialist qualification may also be considered, subject to the relevant
ANZCA and AHPRA assessment and registration requirements.
Remuneration & Benefits The position offers an attractive overall remuneration package, including:
- Competitive specialist remuneration package
